Experience the breathtaking landscapes and extraordinary colors of Van Gogh’s most famous works, seen for the first time in giant-screen film medium, in Van Gogh: Brush With Genius, opening Saturday, May 22, 2010, at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History’s Omni Theater, an IMAX® dome. This 40-minute giant-screen film documents the life and paintings of Vincent Van Gogh with stunning visual effects that only IMAX can offer. Van Gogh: Brush With Genius was filmed entirely in 15/70mm in France and the Netherlands.

Created by Peter Knapp and Francois Bertrand with the cooperation of the Van Gogh Museum, the Musee d’Orsay and the Kröller-Müller Museum, Van Gogh: Brush With Genius traces the artist’s remarkable journey from the time of his first canvasses at the age of 27 to the masterpieces he produced before his tragic death at age 37. Told through the eyes of Van Gogh and based on more than 900 personal letters, the film transforms the work of the world’s most popular artist into a completely new entertainment experience.

Van Gogh uses the full force of the IMAX Theater experience to create a deeply personal portrait of the artist that will intensify viewers’ admiration for his work,” said director Francois Bertrand. “Audiences will rediscover a Van Gogh they never knew before and appreciate anew the stunning landscapes and vibrant colors that give his work their strength and beauty. We are honored to be the first to bring the energy and vitality of Van Gogh’s art to IMAX Theaters.”

Van Gogh: Brush With Genius leads viewers on a journey through the surprisingly short 10-year period of the artist’s career during which he painted more than 700 paintings. Told from the perspectives of three main characters—Ellen, a museum researcher, Peter, a film director, and Vincent Van Gogh himself — Van Gogh: Brush With Genius follows in the artist’s footsteps, traveling from the Netherlands to French cities, Auvers-sur-Oise, Arles, Saint-Rémy and Paris. From the dazzling yellow of the artist’s famous cornfields to the deep blue of his famous night sky, audiences will rediscover the source of some of the most important works in art history.

Van Gogh: Brush With Genius is a co-production of Caméra Lucida and La Géode. The film’s artistic director is Peter Knapp. The film is directed and produced by Francois Bertrand; director of photography is Vincent Mathias; music is composed by Armand Amar.

Tickets for Van Gogh: Brush With Genius are $7 for adults and $6 for children (3-12) and seniors (60+). Museum members receive a $3 discount per ticket. Tickets can be purchased online soon or by calling (817) 255-9540, or in person at the Omni Theater ticket counter.
